been generated by young scientists of the European Research Network
"Neuronal Calcium Channels in Human Disease". For both clinicians and
basic scientists voltage-gated calcium channels are a popular research
topic and new generations of drugs modulating these channels will likely
emerge in the future as novel therapeutic concepts to treat human
diseases. More than 15,000 calcium channel - related entries are found in PUBMED. This is a good reason to summarize our current knowledge about this interesting family of voltage-gated ion channels. And because most of this information is present in the brains of these young researchers, they decided to put it together on this educational website. Many excellent reviews on certain aspects of calcium channel structure, function or pharmacology have been published recently. Whenever possible we will therefore provide links to these publications and keep the corresponding sections short. |
